Salesian Sisters – City of Hope

On Sunday at 15:00 hours a talent show took place for the girls living at City of Hope, with the Salesian Sisters where there was dancing singing and drama.
The participants were in groups of 2, 3, 4 or 5 people and the length of each of the items was not to exceed the duration of 10 minutes.  Great talent was displayed by each and every one of the girls who made great efforts and made the work for the jury difficult, to decide the winners.  The jury took into account the costumes, makeup, expressions, intonation and the coordination of the group.
The fourth and third places were awarded for drama performances, “Super Heroes” and “Evablessing Girls.”   The runners-up were “Grove Girls” who danced and the champions were “Beautiful Ones” with a performance of a cappella singing that made the audience stand on their chairs.
We congratulation the high standard and the work done by each and every one, regardless of the position they obtained.

“Sir, we want to see Jesus” – with those words on their mouths young people from different parts of Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia met in Mansa to spend 5 days where there was a wonderful atmosphere.   Every moment, the spirit of Don Bosco and a salesian joy could be experienced. The rally also coincided with the centenary of Don Rua’s death.

The rally was organized by the FMA (Salesian Sisters) with tremendous support of the SDB (Salesians of St. Don Bosco).  About 400 youth participated – Twenty participants were represented from City of Hope. Each day was different and full of new experiences. There was time for prayer, personal reflection, conferences and of course sharing of talents and culture. It would have been impossible to have a Salesian meeting without at least some sports activities – therefore, “Don Rua’s Cup” from the afternoon sports was presented each day.  An unforgettable experience for everybody was the trip to Samfya beach.   We spend a memorable day with beautiful scenery – and the celebration of Mass on the beach – the altar we used in a boat. The following day, Sunday was a very special day – particularly for several of our friends, who were Baptized and received their First Communion.   We were all very happy that we participated in that event.

We thank God for this beautiful experience, for the opportunity of meeting new people, new things that has awakened in our souls, the desire to see Jesus and become his disciples.  Now we want to share with our friends this joy and happiness because we really saw Jesus during this rally.   We met Him in the church, during the prayers, in the sacraments, but what is most important we realized that we can meet him wherever we are and in whatever we do – because He is in each one of us!

The first soccer tournament at City of Hope was held on Tuesday, August 24, with the young people attending the oratory.  It should be noted the great success of participation and the high level of playing shown by the various teams who tried to win the champion trophy.

In the first phase, we organized a league among the eight teams, divided into two groups of four.  The top two teams from each group were in phase 2  and then the stage consisting of two semi-finals that allowed access to the final. The football games lasted 10 minutes for each of the two periods with 5 minute breaks between each.

The team that won was the ‘San Siro’ Team. The  second position was awarded to the home team ‘Bonaventure’ Team. These players  come to ‘City of Hope’ each evening to play on the sports facilities sponsored through the project of Red Deporte y Cooperacion, Madrid.
