Christmas Play

The annual Christmas play took place on Sunday evening, 4 December, 2011.

The performance was conducted by the girls who reside at The City of Hope, as well as the children of workers who live on the grounds. The play commenced with choir singing and each child had a role, either as angels, shepherds, kings or even ‘market scene’ characters. Of course, the girls are at their best when they are dressed up for the occasion.

The volunteers helped to prepare the girls, particularly those with speaking roles and helped provide the music with the Salesian Brothers and Fransiscan Brother from St. Bonaventure College . Fortunately, the play flowed smoothly with no stops! After Mary and Joseph left the stage, the visitors were invited to go outside for refreshments, but the girls continued to dance and sing.

Tractor Appeal

A tractor is desperately needed for the City of Hope. Please support if possible! A tractor is required for various tasks, including ploughing the fields, cutting the grass, and transporting equipment and animals.

The Sisters and young people would greatly appreciate any financial or in-kind gift that could help provide this vital machine, as well as any information regarding organizations that may fund projects such as these.

The Salesian Sisters also have a Tax Exemption that enables donors to claim deduction off any donation given.

As always, we truly value your support and prayers.

For those who are unaware, a nearly fatal vehicle accident destroyed our tractor last year. We have been struggling to make ends meet since that incident.

Mother Yvonne in City of Hope

On August 26, the City of Hope was happy to welcome Mother General Yvonne Reungoat, who remained quite busy during her four-day stay.

Of course Mother Yvonne spent time at The City of Hope, but also celebrated the final profession of Sr. Esther Chilonga at the Makeni Parish Church. Celebrants included His Eminence, Cardinal Medardo Mazombwe, Provincial Sr. Julienne, and Sr. Esther’s brother, Fr. Titus SJ, and other family members.  Lunch followed at The City of Hope, where everyone was entertained by groups of young people from all the Salesian houses.

Mother Yvonne also met with the Educating Community and celebrated a Thanksgiving Mass with Apostolic Nuncio Nicola Girasoli and the Salesian Fathers. This Mass was said for the Silver Jubilee of our Provincial, Sr. Julienne Munyemba. About 450 young people attended.
